New York’s retro futurism is particularly interesting because the city itself is an anachronistic view of modernism - an antique skyscraper city. Each one of these proposals is not just a past vision of the future, but a past vision of the future which is now in the past itself.

The people of Britain are beginning to take it a growing interest in the personality of their future Queen—only beginning, because so far Princess Elizabeth’s life has most rightly been spent in her home rather than in the public eye, and her future subjects know relatively little of her, apart from the admirable broadcast talk she gave some three years ago to the children of the Empire, at home and overseas, when she was only fourteen. Now that the Princess stands on the threshold of public life, both they and persons in other lands who watch the fortunes of the British Royal House may feel some natural desire to know how she is being prepared for the high office that will one day be hers.

With the Diamond Jubilee set to begin this weekend, we dug up this 68-year-old story to offer a compelling peek at what “Princess Elizabeth” was like before she wore the crown. Enjoy!
Rayfish Footwear lets you alter stingray DNA to create your own custom sneakers.
These look awesome but do they really need to be made out of stingrays :( The design app (click here) is still fun, I just don’t want to make my babies into shoes!
As Pizza Day readers already know, I don’t always feel bad about eating animals.. but when I do, I like to use this vintage butter dish to get my lentil sprouts started.
I just rinse them, place them in the dish, cover and let sit overnight. Usually, they have sprouted by the next morning, rinse the sprouts again and put in a glass jar with cheesecloth rubberbanded over the top for air circulation, then put in the fridge to slow growth and use as needed. Remember to rinse them every day! If you try this yourself, make sure your butter dish lid lets the lentils breathe, I usually let mine sit just a little off center so that they’re covered but get plenty of air.
That’s it! Remember, you can win friends with salad.
